But as long as the risk is there, even companies indirectly sourcing from SCA through DS Smith, must take action. Carrying around 2000 brands, the company produces more than 300 billion pieces of Nestl\u00e9 packaging every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nestl\u00e9 claims to source paper and pulp only from sustainably managed forests. After Nestl\u00e9 visited Sweden in september 2024 on the invitation from Protect the Forest, Greenpeace, Robin Wood and indigenous reindeer herders, the company made the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe are taking actions, including <strong>exploring<\/strong> <strong>the decrease of our sourcing demand<\/strong> from the Swedish Northern Boreal region. [&#8230;] We have identified this region as a biodiversity hotspot and is expected to benefit from higher conservation efforts and social\/land rights considerations.\u201d<\/em>.<br><br>They have during 2025 updated the statement with the following change:<br><em>&#8220;&#8230;In that context we are taking actions,<strong> <\/strong>including<strong> decreasing our sourcing demand <\/strong>from the Swedish Northern Boreal region.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January 2025, the British packaging company DS Smith merged with International Paper, making it the global market leader for paper based packaging. Well known companies such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-sweden-stateless\/2024\/05\/924326e2-killed-by-cardboard-report.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-sweden-stateless\/2024\/05\/924326e2-killed-by-cardboard-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dssmith.com\/contentassets\/684572b5d8214a9aa46fc1b7fc58a02e\/181004-cmd-combined-full-final.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.dssmith.com\/contentassets\/684572b5d8214a9aa46fc1b7fc58a02e\/181004-cmd-combined-full-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">L\u2019or\u00e9al<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unilever.com\/files\/unilever-paper-board-suppliers-2024.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.unilever.com\/files\/unilever-paper-board-suppliers-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unilever<\/a> <\/strong>are among the countless companies that rely on DS Smith for their supply of packaging material.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-5-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"breaking\"><strong>Breaking news on Nestl\u00e9:<\/strong><br><br>Protect the Forest and Greenpeace have for the past years informed Nestl\u00e9 about the situation in Sweden and had a dialogue with them. We have been out in the forest with them and shared reports.
